I introduced glazing medium into my process for this painting, and it was a game-changer. Instead of going straight in with the green and magenta, I created an underpainting of prussian blue and white to map out the light and dark areas, and then brushed on several layers of semi-transparent paint mixed with glazing medium. I had so much more control over the subtleties of my colors and used that control to create a rift-like nebula.
