Stargazing series, 8 of 8

This painting is the culmination of everything I've learned over the course of creating this outer space series. I employed all the techniques I had developed along the way: a value underpainting, thin layers of color with glazing medium, dry-brushed white paint for glowing areas. I also incorporated a new tool: the everyday kitchen sponge. Using the rough side to apply thin layers of paint created these fine tendrils in the clouds, too fine to create with a brush. Alternating between the sponge and a brush allowed me to achieve a balance between crisp details and soft glowing edges, which is what I had been striving for during the entire series.
